Press Review 08.12.2017

Inclusion of Sheki in the "Network of Creative Cities" of UNESCO, the attitude of the Azerbaijani authorities to the European Union, and the activity of the production system are the leading topics of today's press.

The newspaper Azerbaijan writes that the UNESCO has included Sheki in the Network of Creative Cities. By the decision of the General Director of this organization Irina Bokova, in this list there are 64 cities in 44 countries.

The purpose of creating this network is the development of applied art and the expansion of the tourist potential of these cities.

The newspaper Novoye Vremya published an article on the role and place of the legal profession in the country. Without reforms in the judicial system, it is not possible to achieve a true rule of law. In recent years, the judicial system has faced many changes, but in fact, there is a banal rearrangement of the "terms".

The party of defense is infringed in the rights in the criminal case. In particular, a lawyer can get acquainted with the case materials only at the end of the investigation, and he does not have the right to collect evidence.

The level of legal defense of the population remains very low, while few people want to become lawyers. This is caused, both by the level of payment, and by a significantly worse legal status than prosecutors.

The website Azadliq.info comments on the latest statements of the presidential aide Novruz Mammadov, who called the EU a Christian club.

Mammadov accuses the EU of unfair treatment of Azerbaijan, assuring that the public is concerned about this.

It seems that the start of another criticism of the West was given after the Brussels summit of the EU on November 24. ------000------
