We demand justice, Thale Bagirzades wife
Baku / 07.02.19 / Turan: The family of the convicted leader of the Muslim Unity Movement Thale Bagirzade has not had information about his fate for a week now. His wife Leyla Ismayilzade said this in an interview with the Azerbaijani service of Voice of America.
"We have no information about his condition. He has been calling for a week now.
And reports that he is being subjected to inhuman treatment are true," Ismailzade said.
According to her, "these torments concern not only Tale, but also JabbarJabbarov, Abbas Huseyn, and recently all 700 prisoners of Gobustan prison."
Ismailzade noted that if Bagirzadedoesn"t cause physical suffering, Jabbarova and Huseynov are beaten.
"Thale is subjected to moral torture, tightly shackling his hands in bloodied handcuffs. Unjustly many times a day, they come and ask for the last name, first name, patronymic, putting psychological pressure," said Ismailzade.
She noted that in connection with what is happening in prison, she applied to the Prison Service and the Red Cross.
Representatives of the Red Cross have already visited Bagirzade in January.
"And the staff of the Prison Service go there to hear the complaint, and then deny it," said Ismailzade.
The last time she saw him was in prison in November 2018.
Another meeting should take place at the end of February and then she will know in more detail what is happening with her husband.
"All we want from the authorities is to stop oppression. We are not asking for pardon, we are asking for excuses. We want all conscientious people not to be silent before injustice," Ismayilzade said.
Thale Bagirzade, Abbas Hussein, JabbarJabbarov were detained during the special operation Nardaran in November 2015 and sentenced to long prison terms on charges of terrorism, trying to change the state system, etc.
They rejected the charges. Human rights organizations recognized them as political prisoners. -03B06-

The closure of Azerbaijan's land borders was discussed during the parliamentary session on November 25. While the government’s decision cites the coronavirus pandemic as the main reason—despite the World Health Organization declaring its end last year—Zahid Oruj, Chair of the Human Rights Committee in the Milli Majlis, pointed to other factors. He stated, "Opening the borders could result in an influx of hundreds of thousands of non-Azerbaijani refugees due to the Russia-Ukraine war. Additionally, in Iran, many are prepared to cross into Azerbaijan to safeguard their lives and assets amid military strikes. Such waves of refugees could lead to humanitarian, social, and cultural clashes that may threaten political stability."
