COMPOSITION ON THE SAME SUBJECT OR HOW I WROTE ABOUT HEYDAR ALIYEV

After graduation from the University I used to work as the Russian
language and literature teacher in the secondary school for about ten years. It
was not easy, but it was interesting. That was the Soviet period of the 1980s
and I remember I asked the sixth grade pupils to write the composition about
flowers. That time we had many planned and compulsory subjects for the
compositions. One girl wrote that she hates flowers and attempted to explain
why. I gave her the excellent mark, just because she was not afraid to express
her opinion, unlike others. But my colleagues said the girl did not deserve the
excellent mark, because it"s impossible not to like flowers. Yes, it is
possible, but not all people dared to say that.
I could not understand why we must force children say what we want to hear from them. Don"t they have the right to express their own opinion from childhood.May be we should give them a chance to express their feelings without fear?
Our colleague has recently asked me to write the composition about Heydar Aliyev. She said her daughter is senior pupil at Baku"s
school, but she could not write it by herself. In their composition the
schoolchildren should show how they see personality of Heydar Aliyev. Frankly
speaking, it was not clear to me how teenagers must have their own opinion on
Heydar Aliyev. The pupils just can repeat what they have heard about him in the
family or read in the newspapers. The composition should be positive, because
you would be misunderstood, if you have written something negative. I decided to write not to upset my colleague,
but I thought how should I do that not to act against my conscience. Frankly speaking, I failed, though the
composition contained historical facts, which I have witnesses as journalist.
But my composition was most likely false. When I gave the composition to my
colleague, I told her that I have acted against my conscience.
On May 8, t he 15th anniversary of the Shusha occupation and a week
after the act of terrorism in the Oil Academy, the Education Ministry will hold
presentation of the compositions about Heydar Aliyev in Gulistan Palace...
In the Soviet times teachers forced pupils to write compositions about Lenin.
Children, who have never seen leader of the proletarian revolution, had to copy
off truisms. So, what is the difference between the current pupils and Soviet pupils?
As previously the children are forced to tell lies, they are not allowed to think analytically and independently. Our nation needs intellectuals and young
generation, who will think, live and build their future.
