It is impossible to solve economic problems in terms of shootings

Baku/18.08.21/Turan: The Azerbaijan-Armenia-Russia Trilateral Working Group (Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev, Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Mher Grigoryan and Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexey Overchuk) resumed its work on August 17 in Moscow.

It should be remembered that the group's meetings have not been held for a long time due to Armenia's refusal to open transport links. What happened? What prompted Armenia to agree to the meeting? Is it going to sign a peace treaty in the foreseeable future?

Political commentator Rauf Mirkadirov answers these questions in the program "Difficult Question".

According to him, Armenia's position was influenced by the well-known statement of the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry and the note of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry of Russia due to Zhirinovsky's words.

To Mirkadyrov's thinking, it'd be wrong to lay a special emphasis on the Moscow meeting. The question is that most of the issues under consideration lie in the economic perspective and their resolution is possible in principle. After some time, they might be resolved if the Armenian side would be psychologically ready for this. Besides, solving these problems is not a matter of one day. Most of all, they focus on the restoration of the Zangezur corridor, and this is due to the coordination of financing questions, the solution of engineering and technical issues, construction work, etc.

In political analyst's view, the only positive thing is that recently one of Pashinyan's Ministers (Minister of Territorial Development and Infrastructure of Armenia Gnel Sanosyan – Ed.) said that if peace is restored in the region and communications are completely unblocked, it will be economically profitable for Armenia to work on this track.

"In my opinion, the trilateral working group is largely engaged in solving economic challenges while the economic aspect is a matter of the second plan. At a time when nearly every day there are shootings, the solution of economic problems is hardly possible. It is possible to discuss ways to solve them, but first of all, sooner or later, we shall have to solve issues that lie in the military-political perspective," the expert said.

In his opinion, the fact that this meeting took place might have some significance in the future but it has absolutely nothing to do with solving specific problems. "That is why Armenia took part in this meeting. Its participation in the meeting is not contrary to the current policy of Yerevan. At the same time, the meeting does not harm Azerbaijan in any way," Mirkadyrov believes.—0—
