Germans Teach How to Identify Toxins in Hazelnuts
Baku completed training for hazelnut exporters to the EU market, which was held from 24 to 27 June by the German expert Christine Susanna Froese in the framework of the project "Strengthening the Quality Infrastructure in the South Caucasus."
The training was organized by the State Committee for Standardization, Metrology and Patents (SCSMP) with the participation of the National Institute of Metrology of Germany. During the training, representatives of local laboratories and refineries and production of hazelnuts were shown the procedure for obtaining samples of hazelnut crop to be exported to the EU and tests to determine aflatoxin in its composition. According to SCSMP, Azerbaijan ranks third in terms of exports of hazelnuts to the EU.
Part of the training was held in Baku at the hazelnut processing plant, which was attended by representatives from the laboratories of Georgia.
According to the State Statistics Committee, in 2012 Azerbaijan exported 10,250 tons of refined hazelnut, worth $ 45.8 million.
A few years ago, the EU rejected hundreds of tons of Azerbaijani hazelnuts, as health hazard toxic substances had been identified in the commodity. -08D-

This figure, which includes reserves held by the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) and the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA), far exceeds the nation's external debt, which stands at a fraction of its reserves, specifically nearly 14 times less.
