Nazarbayev plans to deal with global nuclear security issues
aa.com.tr: The first President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, continues to deal with global nuclear security issues, and is also working on a memoir. He said this in an interview with political scientist Daniyar Ashimbayev, Interfax reports.
"I continue to devote time to global nuclear security issues. Kazakhstan was recognized as the leader of nuclear disarmament after my decree closed the test site in Semipalatinsk, and we abandoned the nuclear arsenal. In addition, I am working on my memoirs," Nazarbayev said.
He also said that after he resigned from the post of president, the leaders of many states contacted him and invited him to visit their countries. "I am grateful to them all. I keep in touch with some of them. The Eurasian Economic Union, the Organization of Turkic States, which were created with my direct participation, elected me honorary chairman of these organizations. The work of my Foundation (Nazarbayev Foundation) also requires attention," Nazarbayev said.
"My thoughts, wishes and prayers today are for the well-being, stability and prosperity of Kazakhstan. Let our descendants do more than we do. I sincerely wish them success in this," he said.
Nursultan Nazarbayev has led Kazakhstan for almost 30 years. In March 2019, he resigned from the post of president, but retained the status of "Elbasy" (leader of the nation), chairman of the Security Council and the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan, as well as the leader of the ruling party, prescribed in the Constitution.
In April 2021, Nazarbayev transferred the powers of the chairman of the APK to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
He left the post of party leader in November 2021, and the post of chairman of the Security Council for life in January 2022.
