The European Union and the Council of Europe on 13 October will present to the media in Baku the mid-term results of their joint projects for Eastern Partnership countries, with a special focus on Azerbaijan.

The four projects in Azerbaijan, on improving media freedom and freedom of expression, strengthening capacities to fight corruption, increasing the role of the Academy of Justice, training Judges as well as improving the efficiency and quality of judicial services, were implemented under the EU-CoE Programmatic Cooperation Framework. Also, the results of the 14 regional initiatives, in which Azerbaijan participates and which cover all Eastern Partnership countries, will be presented to media.

The EU-Council of Europe Programmatic Co-operation Framework aims to provide extensive and substantial expertise on strengthening the capacity of institutions in the six Eastern Partnership countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine) to implement domestic reforms. It also aims to bring the countries closer to Council of Europe and European Union standards in the fields of human rights, democracy and the rule of law, and improve the lives of citizens. The EU’s contribution to the PCF is EUR 30 million, says EU Neighbours East Info. -02D-
