Action in memory of the murdered journalist Elmar Huseynov
Baku / 02.28.19 / Turan: The action to commemorate the editor of the Monitor magazine, Elmar Huseynov, on the occasion of the 14th anniversary of his murder will take place on March 2 at 11.00 at the grave of the deceased, reads the message of the Institute for Reporters Freedom and Safety (IRFS).
The journalistic organization called on representatives of the public, media, citizens who are not indifferent to the fate of freedom of speech in Azerbaijan, to take part in the action.
Elmar Huseynov was the head of a number of media projects in Azerbaijan, who were notable for their vivid political content and criticism of the political system, government corruption, and human rights violations.
For many years, Huseynov was subjected to pressure, threats and persecution for his publications.
On March 2, 2005, he was shot dead on the threshold of his apartment. 14 years have passed since the murder, but those who ordered and perpetrators of the murder have not been found. The authorities of Azerbaijan made public the names of those suspected of the murder, but no measures were taken to bring them from Georgia to Azerbaijan. -06D--

President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola has invited Azerbaijani economist and political prisoner Professor Gubad Ibadoglu to Strasbourg to attend the 2024 Sakharov Prize award ceremony. The invitation, delivered by Member of the European Parliament Michael Bloss at the COP29 climate conference, comes as Ibadoglu remains under house arrest and prohibited from leaving Azerbaijan.
