Activist Imprisoned in Mental Hospital
Baku / 31.03.20/Turan: A member of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) Aghil Humbatov was imprisoned in a mental hospital, his relatives said.
On March 29, Humbatov made a statement on social networks, where he criticized the country's authorities. In particular, he criticized the leadership of Azerbaijan for his not being able to find money to have his child treated.
On March 30, 4 men in plainclothes detained him and took him away in an unknown direction. On March 29, an unknown person threatened him with death.
“On the evening of March 30 in the Khazar district police department we were given a number by which we can find out the whereabouts of Aghil. When we called, we were told that Aghil was in the mental hospital in Mashtaga. We were not given any information about the reason for his being placed in this mental hospital,” said a member of the opposition activist’s family.
So far they have not been given the opportunity to visit or speak with Humbatov himself.
