One of the accusations removed from the director of the newspaper Azadlyg
Baku / 02.05.17 / Turan: The investigation removed from Faik Amirov, the financial director of Azadlig newspaper, the accusation under the Article 308 of the Criminal Code (abuse of office.) However, the remaining charges are upheld: 213.1 (tax evasion on a large scale) and 283.2.2 (inciting hatred with the use of official position, his lawyer Agil Laidjev told Turan.
According to the lawyer, the investigation blames Amirov for understating the circulation and income of the newspaper in order to pay less taxes. In addition, he is accused of trying to spread the ideas of Fatullah Gulen in the newspaper.
"Such accusations sound absurd. To make a criminal charge, relying on what the person wanted to do is ridiculous. In addition, there is no evidence that he wanted to do something. Gulen's books were published in Azerbaijan until recently and nobody was put in charge of this," said the lawyer.
Amirov was arrested on August 20, 2016, and then the authorities closed the newspaper. The materials of his case must be submitted to the court in the near future.-05B-.
