Baku / 03.07.18 / Turan: Restoration of water supply in the districts of Baku and Sumgait, after a night accident at Mingechevir Thermal Power Station and the subsequent shutdown of purification systems, is proceeding in stages. The water supply stopped as a result of the stoppage of the water purification systems in the Kura, the Jeyranbatan reservoir, and also the city pumps and water barns. Within 12 hours, the water supply line will be filled, and water from the Kura river will flow to Baku; so on Tuesday, the water shortage will continue, follows from the message of the press service of LLC Azersu.
Experts are discussing the cause of the national scale accident. The official explanation is that the electric networks could not stand the overload in hot weather. Expert in the field of electrical engineering Akif Hasanov explains what happened: the amount of consumed energy exceeds the amount of produced. That's why the generators are exploding, there are closures. The damage is enormous, for apart from the system itself, life support facilities are out of order.
In such cases, fan shutdown of areas and secondary energy consumers is used. Perhaps this explains the night blackout of traffic lights and street lighting. Akif Hasanov blamed Etibar Pirverdiyev, head of the Azerenergy state company.
This is not the first such a large-scale accident in the country. Under the chair of Pirverdiyev there were already three large-scale crashes: on January 28, 2006 and on February 10, 2010, Baku and the regions were de-energized.
On September 28, 2012 a number of districts of Baku, as well as the regions of Azerbaijan were de-energized as a result of the accident at the same TPP "Azerbaijan" in Mingechevir.
Under the presidency of Heydar Aliyev, there was also a major accident ; on July 14, 2002, as a result of the accident in the electrical system, part of the country was de-energized. Then President Heydar Aliyev dismissed Muslim Imanov, the head of Azerenerji.
Not experts are frightened by the unreliability of the life support systems in the country. Journalist Caucasus Omarov: "Azerbaijan's energy security is hanging by a thread." This is not yet a diversion, not a terrorist act, but an ordinary heat ... ".
Human rights activist Eldar Zeynalov is surprised by the explanation of network congestion because of the heat. "The transformer burned down" in the first half of the night, when the people were already partially asleep, the temperature dropped, and the load had to decrease. All power plants have protection against overloads, and are calculated with a margin. How did it happen that half the country was left without electricity? What are all these advertised "security concepts" worth - from military to food, when a simple temperature drop leads to such a collapse?
How right is it for us to discount the version not of chance of such a situation? "Eldar Zeynalov asks.
Where there was electricity, there is no internet. The director of the NGO of the Multimedia Center Osman Gunduz writes that Azerenerji was aware of the need to overhaul the sixth power unit of the TPP in Mingechevir, where an explosion and fire occurred. The replacement of this block was envisaged in the strategic road map of Azerenerji. But it has not been repaired.
The number of planned but not executed works in the electric sector is great. "Technogenic catastrophes and disconnection of electricity are possible everywhere, but the consequences should not be so large-scale. A serious government investigation should be conducted, "Gunduz said.
He also notes that this is not the first such case in the Azerenerji system, which speaks of the irresponsibility of the company. Another reason for the frequent accidents is the government's refusal to attract private companies as an alternative to the public sector, the expert believes.
Turan notes, that since 1998, the authorities spent about $ 4 billion on the modernization of the country's electricity and distribution network. -0-
