The wife of the arrested journalist is persecuted
Baku/06.05.21/Turan: Gulmira Aslanova, the wife of the arrested journalist Polad Aslanov faced prosecution. Citizen Arifa Alieva, who had previously testified against Polad Aslanov, Gulmira's husband, filed a lawsuit against her.
“I promised that after my husband's trial I would name those who slandered him during the preliminary investigation. Answering the questions of my husband and lawyers in court, Arifa Aliyeva denied her testimony at the preliminary investigation. When the judge read out her initial testimony, she confirmed them. I told about this live on Facebook and in the media. Now Aliyeva accuses me of libel, demands an apology and payment of a 5,000 manat fine,” Aslanova said. “I believe that the lawsuit was initiated with the aim of putting pressure on me to stop defending my husband,” Aslanova said.
The lawsuit was filed with the Narimanov District Court, but Aslanova is registered in Tovuz, so the case will be sent to the Tovuz District Court. Arifa Aliyeva confirmed in social networks that she had filed a lawsuit against Aslanova.
