International structures are not a decisive factor in the Karabakh settlement - T. Zulfugarov

Baku / 06.11.19 / Turan: The concepts of the Armenian community of Nagorno-Karabakh have long ceased to exist. Actually, persons speaking on behalf of the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh represent the occupation administration. For these territories are occupied by Armenia, said former Foreign Minister Tofig Zulfugarov in an interview with the Azerbaijani Voice of America service, commenting on the participation of the representative of the illegal regime created in the occupied territories Masis Mayilyan at an event in the US Congress.

The diplomat noted that this (participation of Mayilyan at events in the Congress) should not be given special significance.

“You can meet anyone in Congress. If you have money, it is not difficult to organize an event. The practice and work style of the Congress is that the financing of congressional representatives, the work of their apparatus during election campaigns is organized at the expense of donor assistance. In this sense, any citizen or organization of the United States, or a foreign state or structure, can contribute money to the congressional election fund. In return, the congressional representative defends a certain political line. A specific case confirms that the Armenian lobby finances the election campaigns of the congressmen and they work out the funds by participating in such events,” Zulfugarov said.

Azerbaijan has already expressed a note of US protest, how can this event (participation of Mayilyan at an event in Congress) affect Azerbaijani-American cooperation?

Answering this question, Zulfugarov called the expression of protest to Washington correct. In his opinion, Azerbaijan should not ignore such things, but it is also not worth exaggerating.

“I can assure you that maybe even in the US media, they did not write one line about this event. The American public is not at all aware that such a person came to the United States and he talked about something in the Congress building for 1-2 hours,” Zulfugarov said.

In his opinion, international structures are not decisive factors affecting the settlement of the Karabakh conflict.

“The main factors are the situation at the front, the defense potential. They will play a decisive role in a fair settlement of the conflict,” Zulfugarov said. –1606D-
