A stitch in time saves nine: they remembered the Baku architecture that they had destroyed
On November 1, a one-day exhibition “Preserved Pearls of Baku” was held at the Landmark business center, as part of the Fantasy culture festival organized by the European Union’s representative office in Azerbaijan.
None of the museums in the city, despite numerous appeals over the past year, agreed to accept it. And only Landmark allowed to hold the exhibition at one day,” said architect Elchin Aliyev.
Five days later, on November 5, the country's president delivered a speech to the head of the Baku Military Institute, E. Azizov, condemning officials who admit "ugly high-rise buildings are being built on the site of buildings that have the status of historical and architectural landmark."
Regarding the president’s speech, the Moscow "Caucasian Knot" remarked: "When excavators destroyed the historic buildings on which the Central Park was opened this year in Baku, people stood, filmed, and someone cried. The number of panic articles about uprooted trees, the construction of high-rise buildings in residential yards, all that the president said yesterday, is off the charts. Suddenly - such a speech.
Better than late than never? No, a stitch in time saves nine. Still, it is better to be on time, and not when it is late ...
We present some of the photographs shown at this exhibition.--0--

Amid the bustling scenes of this year’s COP29 climate conference, a protest against whaling and deep-sea mining, organized by a group calling itself the FINS Initiative, drew significant attention from delegates and observers. However, questions have arisen about the legitimacy of the group, as an internet search yields little evidence of its existence beyond scattered mentions.

In the last two days, a "news" story appeared on TikTok about a whale spotted on Baku's seaside boulevard. The most "observant" users posted videos, commenting on the size of the animal. Later, other "witnesses" claimed it wasn't a whale, but a shark. Even later, a version emerged suggesting it was a submarine.
