Bank Silk Way Suspends Converting AZN in Operations with Plastic Cards and Current Accounts
Bank Silk Way has suspended the services of AZN conversion into another currency at operations with plastic cards and current accounts. In the bank’s report it is said the conversion will be suspended from 1 September.
‘The owners of plastic cards and current accounts, making contribution to the plastic card / checking account, will be able to carry out the operation, depending on the card currency (if the plastic card / checking account is opened in US dollars, the contribution can only be made in US dollars, the same applies to other currencies),’ the bank said.
Experts note that due to the shortage of foreign currency the owners of plastic cards or current accounts in foreign currency replenish the accounts in the national currency.
The money is automatically converted into the respective foreign currency, and then the owners of these cards or current accounts in the bank get their deposits in the foreign currency.
Some banks have already introduced specific amounts of commission fees for such services, and some others have suspended the conversion. -76D-

Starting next year, the Azerbaijani government will adopt a new policy towards entrepreneurs who export domestic products abroad but fail to return a portion of their earnings to the country. This issue often concerns Azerbaijani tomatoes sold in Russia. According to National Bank Chairman Taleh Kazimov, decisions to penalize such entrepreneurs will no longer be made without a thorough investigation into the reasons behind the failure to repatriate earnings.
