American Iranians Not Happy with Idea of Unification of Azerbaijan
The proposal to support the merger of North and South Azerbaijan has become the subject of discussion at the traditional briefing in the U.S. Department of State on August 27.
As the correspondent of Turan reported, a reporter asked the spokesperson Victoria Nuland to comment on this idea of Congressman Rohrabacher.
In particular, he asked what the response of Secretary of State Clinton to the Congressman's proposal was.
Nuland tried to answer in general terms that the letter was considered and answered, but she was not aware of its contents. But the reporter was persistent and asked whether Washington supports the collapse of states. At this, Nuland noticed that the U.S. supports territorial integrity.
"Have you said this to Rohrabacher?" the reporter asked. "We said, we said, we said," Nuland said.
Earlier, a group of Iranian opposition members in the United States sent a petition to the Congress and the State Department to protest against the idea of Rohrabacher.
"We demand that the U.S. Secretary of State Clinton made a clear and unequivocal answer to the suggestion of Congressman Rohrabacher and said the U.S. recognizes the territorial integrity of Iran."
Azerbaijanis are an inseparable part of the Iranian people. They live all over the country, and many members of the government are ethnic Azeris.
Many of the ruling dynasties in Iran were Turkic and Azerbaijani culture is part of the Iranian identity. An attempt to divide Iranians is an attempt to break the unity of the Iranian society fighting for democratic values, according to the petition.
Professor of the University of California, Iranian Turaj Daria also published an article that gives a historical background that proves identity of Azerbaijanis and Azerbaijan as a territory of Iran. It also shows the great participation of Azerbaijanis in the life of the Iranian state at all stages, including the current one, and stressed that the country's leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, and the main opposition leader, Mousavi, are ethnic Azerbaijanis.
So the professor urges Americans not to repeat the mistakes made in Kosovo, and remember the war between Armenia and Azerbaijan, caused by support for the ideas of separatism. -025D-

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) today issued five rulings on applications from Azerbaijan. The case of "Afgan Mammadov v. Azerbaijan" concerned the complainant's exclusion from the Bar Association. Mammadov was expelled based on a complaint filed by a colleague, which he considered unjust. The ECHR ruled that Mammadov's rights had been violated and ordered Azerbaijan to pay him €5,000 in compensation for moral damage and €1,000 to cover legal costs.
