Attorney General receives head of Council of Europe Directorate for Human Rights
Baku/12.09.19/Turan: The day before, Attorney General Zakir Garalov received the head of the Directorate for Human Rights and the Rule of Law of the Council of Europe, Christos Sakumopoulos. During the meeting, an exchange of views on the state of human rights in Azerbaijan and relations between Baku and Strasbourg took place. According to the Prosecutor General"s Office, Garalov told the guest about the great achievements of the country's jurisprudence, reforms of the prison system and legislation. In response, Sakumopoulos welcomed the reforms in the judicial sphere of the country and expressed the willingness of the experts of the Council of Europe to continue to help Azerbaijan. According to the Prosecutor General"s Office, the representative of the Council of Europe did not say anything else. However, it is no secret that Azerbaijan"s refusal to comply with the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights remains a serious problem in relations between Baku and Strasbourg. Baku also ignores the calls of the Council of Europe to solve the problems of political prisoners, as PACE President Liliane Mori Pasquier said in Baku on September 11. -03D-
