Azerbaijan for the increased attention of the OSCE PA to conflicts in the South Caucasus
At a meeting of the Standing Committee of the OSCE PA prior to the plenary session of the Assembly in Baku on June 28, the The Head of the Azerbaijani delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Vice Speaker Bahar Muradova, has proposed to expand the powers of the representative of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly for the South Caucasus, Joao Soares, to help solve the conflicts in the region. Myradova believes that OSCE PA works insufficiently towards facilitating settlement of existing conflicts in the South Caucasus.
However, she noted that despite the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group, there are no results in the settlement of the Karabakh conflict.
" The OSCE PA does not work enough in this direction. Therefore I would like to extended the mandate and expand the powers of the representative of the OSCE PA in the South Caucasus for the settlement of existing conflicts. It would be better if Mr. Soaresnot only visited the region once every two or three years, and that these visits were intensified, but to intensify these visits , and work more actively for mediation efforts by regional conflicts. If we are here to discuss the crisis over Ukraine, the South Caucasus problems become more urgent, " said. Muradova.
In turn, the chairman of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, the Speaker of the Parliament of Montenegro, Ranko Krivokapich, announced plans to revitalize the area of conflict. "There are a number of proposals to enhance our capacity in this regard", he said.
Krivokapich also believes that the revitalization of the OSCE PA Representative for the South Caucasus "would be very useful."
"Of course, to Joao Soares has intensified his work on the question, he needs more help and support. Taking into account the events in Ukraine, we need to prioritize this work in relation to the South Caucasus. And we certainly intend to attract Soares and in this direction," said R.Krivokapich. —06С--
