Azerbaijan is a country sending the most number of appeals to the European Court
Baku / 25.01.18 / Turan: Azerbaijan is one of the seven countries most frequently applying to the European Court. Thus, 4% of all cases in court execution came from Azerbaijan, stated the European Court's report released today. The text of the report is posted on the website of the European Court of Human Rights. According to the report, complaints awaiting consideration were received from Romania, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, Italy, Hungary and Azerbaijan: "9,900 complaints have been received from Romania, 7,750 from Russia, 7 500, from Ukraine - 7 100, from Italy - 4 650, from Hungary - 3 550, from Azerbaijan - 2 050. "Up to 75% of complaints lodged by the European Court are due to Romania, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, Italy, Hungary and Azerbaijan, and 25% to the other 40 countries of the Council of Europe," the report says.
In 2017, the number of complaints to the European Court has significantly increased. So, in 2016, the court received 53,400 complaints, and in 2017 - 63,400. Of these, 56,250 await consideration. In 2017, the number of complaints from Azerbaijan increased, and reached 679. In 2015, there were 268 appeals, and in 2016 - 331. According to the number of decisions, Azerbaijan ranks third in the CIS after Russia and Ukraine. In 2017, 26 decisions were taken in connection with Azerbaijan.
According to the statistics of the court, the rights to a fair trial, freedom of assembly and the right to freedom are most violated in Azerbaijan. For a year in 16 cases, a violation of a fair trial and violation of the right to freedom of assembly was recognized. In 11 cases, the right to liberty and inviolability was violated.
So far, the European Court has passed 148 decisions on Azerbaijan. Decisions in 60 cases related to violation of the right to a fair trial, 45 - violation of freedom and immunity. -05D-
