Baku/02.09.22/Turan: Military sources reported on Friday about the detention of major-general Bekir Orujev, head of the department for ideological work and moral-psychological support of the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan.
The Prosecutor General's Office has not yet confirmed or denied this report.
Informed sources report that Orujev is involved in the so-called "Terter case". In 2017, he was the chief of staff of one of the corps of the Azerbaijani armed forces, based in Terter.
According to unofficial data, Orujov is suspected of involvement in tortures and illegal arrests of numerous military personnel. The reason for these repressions were suspicions of cooperation with the Armenian side which later was not confirmed.
*After the April 2016 battles the military became massively involved in the investigation in Azerbaijan which was called the "Terter case".
Then the Prosecutor General's Office, the State Security Service, the Ministry of Defense and the Interior Ministry made a joint statement that motivated the arrests by the involvement of suspects in espionage in favor of Armenia.
Note that just in 2019 the public learned about details of mass tortures of detainees in May-June 2017.
According to human rights activists, more than 100 soldiers and officers were tortured, 25 were sentenced to long terms of imprisonment, at least, nine people died from tortures.
In pursuance of witness statements and forensic examination materials, the accused were subjected to sophisticated tortures.
The authorities have long denied the mass repressions of servicemen, but under public pressures and constant protests from relatives of the victims, they were forced to admit the facts and resume the investigation. -02B-
