Meeting in Ashgabat to discuss conservation of biological resources in the Caspian Sea
The Turkmen capital is hosting a regional meeting on the conservation and sustainable use of biological resources in the Caspian Sea.
The Turkmen media reported that the event is being hosted by the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.
The heads of ministries and departments from Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan are in attendance.
The participant’s goal is to develop a draft agreement on the conservation and sustainable use of biological resources of the Caspian Sea, and to form an effective mechanism of interaction of the Caspian countries in this field.
The parties have presented their proposals on how to determine the rules of use of biological resources, including quotas for sturgeon, the coordination of national programs in the field of environmental protection, restoration of marine fish resources, and the management of fishing activities in the waters of the sea.
Urgent tasks include monitoring of the Caspian Sea, complex scientific research in this area, and environmental education. -02D-

According to a report by Turan correspondent, the discussions took place behind closed doors and lasted for over an hour. No statements were made to the press following the meeting.
