Morningstar and the Department of State Discuss the Situation in Azerbaijan
US-Azerbaijani relations and regional policy were discussed during a meeting at the Department of State between U.S. Ambassador to Baku Richard Morningstar and the Deputy Secretary of State, William Burns.
As told to Turan, subjects discussed were the situation in Azerbaijan in light of the upcoming presidential elections and other regional issues.
Details of the discussions were not disclosed, but experts familiar with the State Department work style, usually in such meetings they are not just talking about the situation in the country and region, but about the further steps of the U.S. administration in this country.
State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said from the previous post by Richard Morningstar, the envoy on energy issues in the Caspian region, will now be performed by Carlos Pascual, who is the State Department's special envoy for the international energy industry.
She was asked about Senator Richard Lugar initiative, who prepared a bill on energy initiatives in the Caucasus, in particular, on supporting the Nabucco project. Victoria Nuland said that she could answer this question after reading Lugar’s idea. -25B04-
