PACE Rapporteur to Present Initial Version of Report on Political Prisoners in Azerbaijan
Baku / 27.12.18 / Turan: PACE rapporteur on political prisoners in Azerbaijan, Icelandic deputy Thorhild Sunna Ewarsdottir will present in January a preliminary version of his report, which will reflect the new criminal case against Mehman Huseynov.
The report will be brought to the attention of the PACE Legal and Human Rights Committee.
She wrote about this in her micro blog on Twitter.
She notes that she "understands the impatience" of Azerbaijani activists, but should receive permission to visit Azerbaijan.
Mehman Huseynov was arrested in March 2017 and sentenced to 2 years in prison under a libel suit filed by the head of the Nasimi district police.
The day before, he was charged with a new charge of beating a prison employee.
Human rights activists are convinced that Huseynov is being persecuted for exposing corruption among high-ranking officials, as well as criticizing the authorities. -06D--
