Pashinyan imitates peace process to nullify agreements - Ilgar Velizade
Baku/12.11.22/Turan: Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan responded to the statement of President Ilham Aliyev made in Shusha. Aliyev said that a peace treaty with Armenia would be signed on the basis of Azerbaijan's principles, or will not be signed at all.
Pashinyan's speech on the public TV of Armenia on November 11 sounded several main theses: Aliyev no longer insists on the "corridor status" of the road to Nakhchivan, the whole world considers Karabakh to be Azerbaijani.
"There is no need to harbor illusions ... we should not and cannot fight alone against the whole world. We must stand face to face with what we have done ourselves, as a result, have a clear, implementable program, how we solve the problem. No matter how much it was painful and difficult, we have to face this reality."
Pashinyan also said that the Armenian authorities are not opposed to the Karabakh issue being resolved, but this decision should be made by the people living there. Pashinyan is ready to sign a document on the extension of the presence of Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh.
Commenting on Pashinyan's controversial statement, political scientist Ilgar Velizade considers it necessary to dwell on the words of the head of Armenia that he will do everything to sign a peace treaty with Azerbaijan by the end of the year. Pashinyan claims that there are several options for a peace agreement. One of these options may be some kind of framework agreement that will outline the general boundaries of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations without specifying all possible issues.
"As expected, Yerevan is offering Baku a certain conditional document called a "peace treaty", which contains a set of general phrases and formulations that can be interpreted in one's own way. This convenient imitation of a peace treaty is needed in order to subsequently accuse Azerbaijan of its violation, and nullify all recent agreements. In the interim, you can drag out time and prepare for a new confrontation with Baku in the changed geopolitical conditions. Again, the calculation is made on the clash of interests of Azerbaijan with Russia and Iran, support for France, India, pro-Armenian congressmen in the United States," an Azerbaijani political scientist comments.
Velizade does not believe in Pashinyan's good intentions and believes that under these conditions there is nothing left but to continue to strengthen the defense capability, to increase the level of readiness of the troops for any possible military provocation. "Preparation for a new war in such a situation becomes inevitable." –0—
