Baku/28.12.21/Turan: The creation of the Commonwealth of Independent States was justified, Vladimir Putin said at an informal CIS summit.

According to RIA Novosti, the head of state emphasized that over the past decades, many cardinal changes have taken place, but the connections developed since the times of the USSR help the members of the commonwealth better than other countries to go through difficult stages.

"We in Russia have supported and intend to maintain these relations in the future. But one of the main topics for which we have gathered in the current regime, which requires deeper discussion, is our common fight against the coronavirus pandemic," Putin added.

The traditional informal meeting of the leaders of the CIS countries is being held in St. Petersburg at the initiative of the Russian leader. It is attended by the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, Presidents Ilham Aliyev (Azerbaijan), Alexander Lukashenko (Belarus), Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev (Kazakhstan), Sadyr Japarov (Kyrgyzstan), Emomali Rakhmon (Tajikistan), Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov (Turkmenistan), Shavkat Mirziyoyev (Uzbekistan), as well as the first president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev.

The agreement on the creation of the Commonwealth of Independent States was signed by the leaders of Russia, Ukraine and Belarus on December 8, 1991. — 0—
