The case of Chovdarov sent to the prosecutor"s office (UPDATED)
Major General Akif Chovdarov who was dismissed from the post of the head of the Security Department in the National Security Ministry will probably be arrested. According to sources in the law enforcement sources, the materials in relation to that person referred to prosecutors to investigate his illegal activities. Another General, whose activity is also being investigated, will be Subahir Gurbanov, the head of the Department to combat transnational organized crime in the Ministry of National Security. The purge in the National Security Ministry continues. According to unofficial data, the infamous General Akif Chovdarov, whose name figured in several high-profile crimes, has been dismissed.
The first time he became known during the attack on the correspondent of the Azadlig newspaper Aghil Khalil in 2008. Then Chovdarov and another employee of the MNS Dagbeyi Allahverdiyev beat the journalist when he was preparing a report on the capture of an olive grove in Baku.
After that, the MNS workers staged a real hunt for the journalist and tried to kill or intimidate him several times.
The next time Chovdarov was reported by the editor of Real Azerbaijan Eynullah Fatullayev, who claimed that in 2007 Chovdarov came to the jail, where Fatullayev was in custody, and openly stated that it was he who organized the murder of the editor of the magazine Monitor Elmar Huseynov in 2005 and threatened to destroy all other government critics, including Fatullayev.
The former rector of the International University Elshad Abdullayev also accused Chovdarov of kidnapping and murdering his brother Mahir.
According to unofficial data, Chovdarov executed dirty errands on shootouts, kidnappings and racketeering.
At the time, it was also reported by the head of another criminal group in the Ministry of Interior, Haji Mammadov. Thus, speaking in court, Mammadov said that his criminal gang was nothing compared to other groups operating in the composition of the National Security Ministry.
Official comments or confirmation of the dismissal of Chovdarov have not been received yet. If confirmed, it may help disclose a number of serious crimes in recent years. It should be noted that until recently he headed one of the departments of the Ministry of National Security. -02B-

During the ongoing COP29 climate conference in Baku on November 14, a group of activists staged a protest condemning Russia's aggression against Ukraine. The activists also denounced countries that supply oil and weapons to nations waging aggressive wars. The protest featured placards with slogans such as: "From fossil fuels to peace!", "End war crimes!", "Punish the aggressor!", and "Phase out fossil fuel use to achieve peace!" among others.
