The CEC approves the results of the referendum
The CEC of Azerbaijan has approved the results of the referendum on September 26 on amendments to the Constitution, and its results. The CEC decided to announce the results of the referendum and post referendum act. The document comes into force from the date of publication. Twenty nine amendments, providing for the extension of presidential powers have been proposed in the Constitution. In particular, the President is entitled to appoint the first vice-president and vice-presidents, the dissolution of parliament, early elections. At the same time, the president's powers increased from 5 to 7 years. The document was criticized by the opposition, civil society, a number of international organizations, including the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe.—06В--
