Baku / 27.06.18 / Turan: President IlhamAliyev issued a decree on measures to develop a general plan for Baku on June 27. According to the instruction, an influential international consulting company (whose name is not mentioned -Turan) will be involved in the preparation of the Baku master plan, and 4 million manat was allocated from the state budget.The general plan of the city of Baku already was on the agenda. At the end of 2016, the State Planning Institute presented the "Plan for the use and zoning of the city of Baku" (master plan).It was reported that the implementation of this plan would require USD 283billion. At that time, the director of the Baku State Institute of Science, IlgarIsbatov, said that 122,000 old buildings would be demolished and redeployed because of the project's implementation. -0--

In a case that is disappointing but not surprising, the agreement between the government of Azerbaijan and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) for hosting the climate conference COP29, is replete with significant shortcomings and ambiguities on the protections for participants’ rights. Human Rights Watch has obtained a copy of this host country agreement, signed in August 2024, which has yet to be made public.
