US Rejects 'Business As Usual' With Putin After G20 Invitation
Washington on Friday said that the world cannot deal with Russia's Vladimir Putin as before after Indonesia invited him -- as well as Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky -- to November's Group of 20 summit.
“The United States continues to believe that it can’t be business as usual with regards to Russia’s participation with the international community or international institutions,” State Department deputy spokesperson, Jalina Porter said in response to TURAN's question during the Department's daily press briefing.
She indicated that Indonesia, as the G20 President, is responsible for all the invitations. The deputy spokesperson did not however comment on whether the U.S. would still attend the summit on the resort island of Bali.
Jakarta, which might maintain the G20 summit this year, had been under heavy stress to exclude Russia due to its unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine.
