Zangilan will become a transport and logistics center - Ilham Aliyev

Baku/21.10.21/Turan: There will be an international airport in Zangilan, and this town will turn into a transport and logistics center of Azerbaijan. This was stated by the head of state Ilham Aliyev at a meeting with representatives of the regional public on October 20.

Taking into account the location of the region on the way to the Zangezur corridor, the railway is being restored here, the Goradiz-Agband highway and an international airport are being built.  Recent events related to the opening of the Zangezur corridor testify to the imminent implementation of the project, he said.

"Although the Armenian side tried to oppose the project at first, but now it has already agreed to the opening of the corridor, so issues around the upcoming restoration of the railway and the construction of a highway are being resolved," Aliyev said.

Touching upon the environmental situation in Zangilan, he called the Okhchuchai River a "disaster zone" due to the discharge of harmful substances into it by the metallurgical plant in Kajaran.

Analyses show that the amount of toxic substances in this river is higher 10-20 times than acceptable. Therefore, cleaning works will be carried out and the mining industry will be developed.

"We are already dealing with tourism, agriculture, transport, logistics, environmental protection and, of course, creating conditions for people. Now a "smart village" is being built in Agaly. After the approval of the general plan of Zangilan, we will begin construction work here," the head of state said.—06D-
