Baku / 31.10.19 / Turan: On Thursday, October 31, human rights activist Aliabbas Rustamov was released from prison by the decision of the Narimanov district court of Baku.
According to the verdict of the court, the remaining 8 months of the prison term were replaced by probation. Rustamov was released in the courtroom. He informed Turan about this.
* Rustamov was arrested on June 28, 2014. He was charged under Art. 312.2 (giving a bribe) and 313 (official forgery) of the Criminal Code. The Baku Serious Crimes Court sentenced him to 7 years in prison.
Rustamov himself and his relatives consider the open letter in 2014 addressed to Ilham Aliyev, in which he accused the authorities of corruption and theft of national wealth, as the reason for the persecution.
In July 2017, the Supreme Court reduced the sentence to 6 years in prison. Rustamov denied the allegations, calling them falsified, and human rights activists recognized him as a political prisoner. -21B-
