Appeal of CMB to faithful due to onset of Maharram mourning
Baku/29.07.22/Turan: The Council of the Kadiyas of the Caucasus Muslim Board (CMB) made an appeal to the faithful in connection with the onset of the month of Maharram which this year begins on July 30, 2022. For Shiites, this is a month of mourning.
The main tenth day of mourning - Ashura falls on August 8 this year .
The CMB calls on believers to conduct religious rites on the territory of mosques and places of worship. Given the rise in cases of coronavirus infection, it is recommended that the measures be carried out accordingly.
Also, it was noted the need to refrain from self-torture, which is contrary to Sharia law, and to participate in blood donation campaigns.
*Ashura is the 10th day of the month of Maharram. On this day in 680, a small detachment of Imam Hussein (grandson of the Prophet Mohammed) fell in an unequal battle near the city of Karbala with superior Umayyad detachments. Since then, supporters of Imam Ali (Hussein's father and the founder of Shiism) have celebrated Ashura as a general mourning.
It ought to be noted that Imam Hussein opposed the distortion by the Omeyads of the foundations of the Islamic religion laid down by the Prophet Muhammad, which was expressed in the desire for a luxurious life at the expense of depriving the poor and deepening social inequality.
Besides, in the month of Muharram and in the subsequent month of Safar (within 40 days from the date of Hussein's death), Shiites refrain from holding weddings and other celebrations. -05D06-
