Azad Hasanov testified under torture - lawyer
Baku / 10/20/18 / Turan: On October 19, the Baku Court of Appeal rejected the complaint about the arrest of Musavat party activist Azad Hasanov, lawyer Osman Kyazimov said. He noted that Hasanov was detained by people in civilian clothes on August 11 in the village of Hovsan and put him in a car into the main police department of Baku. The detainees did not introduce themselves that they were from the police. The police planted drugs on him, demanding to give a confession, threatened to torture him. He was forced to write what they dictated to him. Hasanov himself spoke about this at the meeting of the court of appeal.
On October 12, the Khatai District Court of Baku arrested Hasanov for 4 months. However, the appointed lawyer did not defend Hasanov"s rights and did not file an appeal. At the same time, the lawyer Kyazimov, attracted by his family, spent several days vainly seeking information about the place of detention of Hasanov. However, the police and prosecutors in every possible way hid this information.
According to the lawyer, the investigation did not provide convincing grounds that Hasanov could hide from the investigation or interfere with him. However, the appellate court dismissed the arrest complaint.
Azad Hasanov has been in political emigration in Lithuania since 2014. On October 10, he returned to Baku to visit his seriously ill father. However, the day of the same day was detained. He was charged under Art. 234.4.3 (drug trafficking on a large scale) of the Criminal Code. The Musavat Party has announced political motives for the persecution of Hasanov. -03B06-
