Lawyer Elchin Sadigov Denied Meeting with Editor
Baku /16.10.19 / Turan: The prison service refused to allow the lawyer Elchin Sadigov to meet with his client, the editor of the website realliq.info Ikram Rahimov, held in Prison No. 6.
In connection with the transfer of Rahimov from the pretrial detention center to the prison, a meeting with the client required a new permit from the Prison Service.
The lawyer sent a letter with the relevant documents to the head of the department Jeyhun Hasanov.
However, on October 16, he was told that he had not drawn up the letter correctly, and in particular did not indicate the rank of "lieutenant general" of the head of the Prison Service. This was reported by the lawyer himself.
Sadigov called the pretext of the Prison Service "absurd."
In turn, in the public relations department of the Penitentiary Service, Turan was told about the statement by the lawyer Sadigov that "there is a certain form of appeal to officials and it must be observed."
* The editor of the website realliq.info Ikram Rahimov was sentenced to 5.5 years in prison on June 12, 2018. In protest, Rahimov began a hunger strike in August, which he stopped on the 30th day - September 5th.
On September 18, the Court of Appeal confirmed Rahimov"s guilt of extortion by threats, applying Article 62 of the Criminal Code (the imposition of a lesser punishment prescribed by law), and reduced the prison term to 3 years. On September 26, he was transferred from the pretrial detention center to the prison. -21B06-
