Staff of "Objective TV" is not allowed in to event at the Landmark
The youth movement Nida (“The cry”) presented its report on political prisoners and the status of freedom of assembly on Friday in the Landmark Business Center. This document will be submitted to international organizations.
According to the head of the organization, Turgut Gambar, the report contains information on political prisoners arrested during the year prior to the contest "Eurovision 2012" (during the rallies on April 2 and 17, 2011) and directly in front of "Eurovision" (April-May 2012), and after the song contest.
As for the effect of "Eurovision" on the problem of political prisoners, according to Gambar, it did not have any impact on the situation. Most political prisoners were released by decrees of pardon or judicial decisions on parole.
To solve the problem of political prisoners it is necessary to hold new trials in the cases of 89 persons from the list of PACE rapporteur for political prisoners, Christopher Strasser.
The necessity of the immediate release of the two "prisoners of conscience", Shahin Hasanli and Vidadi Iskenderli, was noted.
Nida called on the Azerbaijani authorities to put an end to politically motivated arrests, as well as ending moral and physical pressure on detainees in police stations.
The authorities severely restrict freedom of assembly, not allowing rallies in different parts of Baku. Moreover, police intervene even in actions agreed to by authorities. Unauthorized pickets and rallies are violently suppressed by police.
The authors of the report demand from authorities that they respect their international obligations on freedom of assembly.
During the event, the security service of the Business Center did not allow the staff of "Ovjective TV" to enter, and even removed cameras from other journalists. Security service explained that it was an order from the top.
Previously, the "Diplomat Hotel" and the "Park Inn" refused to provide their facilities for this event. —05C06-
