The case on illegal development of quarries
Baku / 20.08.18 / Turan: The investigation of one of the criminal cases concerning illegal development of sand and gravel quarries, involving six people, completed. According to the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office, the case is forwarded to the court.
The investigation of violations of legislation in the operation of sand and gravel pits started after the destruction of the bridge in the Goychay region in early June this year, the reason for this was the illegal extraction of sand in the riverbed. The lawsuits have been filed under the Articles 192 (illegal entrepreneurship), 247 (violation of environmental protection in the performance of work), 308 (abuse of power) and other articles of the Criminal Code in the General Directorate for Combating Corruption under the Attorney General.
Following the completion of the preliminary investigation, Fakhraddin Muradov, the founder and actual head of ATF LLC, Bahruz Sadayev, the director of Elnicat LLC, and Nazim Gasymov, the head of the Azpod sand and gravel exploitation site, Najmeddin Aliyev, were brought to responsibility in one of these cases. A measure of restraint in the form of arrest was chosen against them.
Allahverdi Allahverdiyev, the chief of production of the Geychay sand and gravel branch of OJSC Azəraqrartikinti, was taken under police supervision.
As a result of illegal business activities, nature and state suffered material damage of 5.5 million manat. The fact of tax evasion amounting to 44,000 manat was established. During the investigation, a part of the damage was compensated. -0--

In the last two days, a "news" story appeared on TikTok about a whale spotted on Baku's seaside boulevard. The most "observant" users posted videos, commenting on the size of the animal. Later, other "witnesses" claimed it wasn't a whale, but a shark. Even later, a version emerged suggesting it was a submarine.
