Human rights defenders were beaten in the Narimanov police. The Ministry of Internal Affairs, as always, denies
Baku / 17.02.22 / Turan: On Thursday afternoon, human rights activist Rufat Safarov and his colleague Zaur Akper were detained and beaten at the Narimanov Police Department in Baku.
The reason for the arbitrariness was that human rights activists came to the police, where Ramish Jafarov, the head of the company, whose trucks blocked Heydar Aliyev Avenue on the morning of February 17, is being held.
Together with the father of the detainee, Zakran Jafarov, human rights activists asked about the fate of the detainee. However, the police used violence against them. They were insulted and beaten. Zaur Akper was thrown to the floor and kicked. The violence was accompanied by insults and threats.
Human rights activists told about all this in the evening when they were released.
The detainee's father, in turn, told reporters that at noon about 15 police officers in civilian clothes broke into his house and seized his son. At the same time, all family members, including elderly parents and young children, were subjected to physical violence.
“The police climbed over the fence, descended from the roof, as if they were capturing a terrorist. Without presenting documents and without explaining anything. They also stole the memory card from the security cameras in our house. Then they took away the same cards in the houses of our neighbors. This is complete arbitrariness and lawlessness,” said the father of the arrested driver.
Human rights activists expressed their extreme indignation at another crime by the police, demanding punishment of the perpetrators from the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Vilayat Eyvazov.
It seems that the minister lives on another planet and is not aware of what his subordinates are doing, said Rufat Safarov.
In turn, the head of the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as always, said that human rights activists were telling lies and there was nothing like that. -02B-

In a world where most countries are easing restrictions and reopening borders post-pandemic, Azerbaijan stands out for maintaining closed land borders, raising questions about the underlying motives and implications of such a policy. President Ilham Aliyev’s remarks at the international forum "COP29 and green vision for Azerbaijan," held at ADA University, emphasized the continued closure as a security measure, yet the broader implications suggest a complex interplay of domestic and international factors.
