Advisor to Minister: Azerbaijan Intends to Increase Share of Renewable Energy Resources
Vienna / 06.12.18 / Turan: Currently, work is underway in Azerbaijan on a draft law on renewable energy sources.
The adviser to the Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan Esmira Jafarova said this at the Eastern Partnership EU Business Forum in Vienna, in a panel on the theme "Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy".
She reported that work on the bill is in the final stage.
"Azerbaijan actively cooperates with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in this area and is working to strengthen the network of renewable energy resources. Azerbaijan aims to increase the share of renewable energy in the country's energy balance up to 20%."
E. Jafarova in her speech referring to the state program "Azerbaijan 2020: A Look at the Future", noted that there is a concept for the development of energy efficiency and sources of renewable energy resources.
"There are development directions in the form of a roadmap and other strategic documents. For Azerbaijan, the topic of renewable energy resources is very interesting and we have big plans in this direction."
Touching upon the holding of such a forum, the adviser to the Minister stressed that such events provide an opportunity for Azerbaijan to present the work carried out in the country in this direction.
"Azerbaijan positions itself not only as an oil and gas country, but also a country that develops the renewable energy sector. This is part of our plans."
The business forum of the EU Eastern Partnership countries (Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova) began its work in the Austrian capital on Thursday.
The event is attended by representatives of governments, business circles, civil society and the media of the Eastern Partnership countries, as well as EU members.
Participants exchanged information on energy efficiency and the rational use of renewable energy. The main attention was paid to the introduction of new technologies in the development of renewable energy sources. -71D
