Agramunt faces a shameful resignation
Baku/24.03.17/Turan: It seems that PACE President Pedro Agramunt will be expelled from office soon; such assessments of the scandal were made at the opening of the spring session of the PACE. A month ago, with the help of Moscow, Agramunt visited Syria and visited the Russian base Khmeimim, and then met with Assad. These actions of Agramunt aroused the indignation of many members of the PACE, and at the opening session demanded an explanation from him. Agramunt indistinctly tried to explain himself and apologized for mistakes, accusing the Russian media of using his trip for his own purposes, Turan said one of the participants in the session.
However, this did not satisfy the PACE members, who demanded a special meeting, where Agramunt reported on his actions. Agramunt tried to persuade them to consider this issue at the PACE Bureau, but deputies from different countries and groups got up and said "either you agree to hearing with the analysis of your trip, or right now we need to raise the issue of a vote of no confidence in you." These statements sounded so aggressive that Agramunt announced a 10-minute break, after which he did not return to the presidency's chair.
One of the vice-presidents of the PACE, the British Sir Roger Gale, who occupied this place, said that the hearings with the actual interrogation of Agramunt by colleagues will be held tomorrow, and for the time being he will lead the meetings.
It should be noted that Agramunt is also a great friend of official Baku, and earlier he was the Rapporteur of the Monitoring Committee. His activities aroused dissatisfaction of human rights defenders, who openly accused him of corruption and concealment of facts of human rights violations in Azerbaijan.
A month ago, PACE Secretary General Jagland also spoke against Agramunt, who was outraged by Agramunt's refusal to investigate the facts of giving million-dollar bribes to the Italian deputy Volunte from the representatives of Azerbaijan for the failure in 2013 of the report of another deputy - Christopher Strasser on political prisoners in Azerbaijan.-71D-
