Azerbaijan Is Not yet Thinking about Membership in the EU
Azerbaijan does not think of EU membership, said Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the country Khalaf Khalafov during his visit to Lithuania.
"While we do not think about it. Time will tell. The quest for membership can not be an end in itself," he said in an interview with the Lithuanian newspaper Lietuvos Zinios.
On the question of the orientation of the country towards the EU and Russia, the deputy minister said that "the region of the South Caucasus, especially Azerbaijan, has become the center of a constructive dialogue between the West and Russia."
In Vilnius last week meetings of the Lithuanian-Azerbaijani Intergovernmental Commission were held.
Azerbaijan is included in the EU's Eastern Partnership program, but international experts are quite skeptical about the approval of Baku's desire to "strategic partnership" with the EU.
In November a summit will be held in Vilnius in the EU due to the chairmanship of Lithuania to the EU. -0 -
