Baku Denies Reports on Recall of Azerbaijani Ambassador from Russia
Baku / 11/15/20 / Turan: Turkish media reports on the recall of Azerbaijani Ambassador to Russia Polad Bulbulogiu do not correspond to reality, the country's Foreign Ministry said.
"Appointment and recall of the country's ambassadors in foreign countries is the prerogative of the President of Azerbaijan," the ministry said.
The Turkish edition of Super Haber wrote about the recall of the diplomat on November 14. As stated in the material, the reason was the ambassador's statement about Turkey's participation in control over the ceasefire regime in Nagorno-Karabakh. In an interview with RBC on November 11, Polad Bulbuloglu said the presence of the Turkish military contingent in the region is not necessary: "The conversation is not about bringing in peacekeepers, that is, Turkish soldiers, the conversation is about technical control over the implementation of this peacekeeping statement by the parties." As Super Haber writes, these words "caused a great resonance in Azerbaijan."
In the same interview, the Ambassador commented on the incident with the Russian Mi-24 helicopter, which the Azerbaijani military shot down on the evening of November 9. Polad Bulbuloglu called the incident a tragic accident, but indicated. that "in war as in war - anything can happen." He noted the helicopter was not recognized by the radars, so the Azerbaijani military decided to shoot it down in wartime. The Ambassador also said that Baku is investigating the incident.
The diplomat's statement caused a sharp reaction from both the Russian and Azerbaijani sides. The Russian Foreign Ministry called the Ambassador's words "a big mistake", noting that if Moscow professed the principle "in war as in war", then "the answer would be crushing." Moscow also expressed the hope that Baku will no longer allow "ambiguous statements" in connection with the helicopter crash. The deputy head of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration, Hikmet Hajiyev, considered the Ambassador's comment inappropriate. -02D-
