Member of "Musavat" party in Nakhcvhivan is sentenced to two years in prison on probation
On January 29 the regional Court of Julfa of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR ) sentenced Mehdi Niftaliyev, a member of "Musavat" party to two years of imprisonment on charges of possessing illegal drugs. He was released in the courtroom, according to Turan regional correspondent.
He was arrested on November 24, 2013 at Julfa customs checkpoint when returning from Iran. According to the investigation, allegedly drugs were found in Niftaliyev’s shoes. At the same time the court sentenced him to a preventive measure against the arrest. However, Nakhchivan regional organization of the party "Musavat" noted the political motives of Niftaliyev’s arrest.
