Ombudswoman asks Red Cross to help Azerbaijani citizens kept in Syria
Baku / 19.03.20 / Turan: On March 19, the Ombudswoman Sabina Aliyeva held consultations with the head of the Red Cross Committee in Azerbaijan, Elena Aimon Sessra, and the office's coordinator, Emanuel Burt, regarding the fate of Azerbaijani citizens held in Syria. According to the Ombudsman’s office, the discussions were conducted via videoconference. Currently, the wives and children of those who fought in this country are held hostage in Syria.
The Ombudswoman asked the representatives of the Red Cross to take urgent measures to clarify the fate of Azerbaijani citizens in Syria, provide them with humanitarian assistance and help reunite with loved ones.
According to unofficial data, about 300 Azerbaijani citizens died in battles in Syria. Judicial measures were applied against 90 returning to Azerbaijan, and 260 were deprived of citizenship. -03B-
