Political consultations between Germany and Azerbaijan to be held in May
Baku/23.04.19/Turan: Political consultations between Germany and Azerbaijan will be held in May. A delegation of the Federal Republic of Germany headed by the authorized representative of the Foreign Ministry for Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia Michael Siebert arrives in Baku on May 7 to participate in them, announced at today's press conference the Ambassador of Germany to Azerbaijan, Michael Kindsgrab.
Answering the question about the agenda of the talks, the ambassador said that the parties always conduct an open dialogue on bilateral relations and political issues of relevance to the region.
Clarifying question whether the issues of democracy and human rights would be raised, the ambassador said that all issues of political cooperation, including the development of democracy and reforms, will be the subject of discussion.
In addition, a delegation of the Bundestag headed by the co-chairman of the inter-parliamentary friendship group with the South Caucasus, Johannes Kars, will visit Azerbaijan in the third decade of May.
In general, over the past year, relations between the parties have developed intensively and this impetus was given during the visit in August 2018 of the Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Azerbaijan is an important partner of Germany in the region. In 2018, the trade turnover between the countries amounted to 1.4 billion euros. German companies are well positioned to diversify the economy of Azerbaijan, including the development of renewable energy sources.
Azerbaijan is the second country after the Russian Federation in the CIS, where there is a German Chamber of Commerce. Scientific, educational and cultural ties are also developing. In 2018 alone, through the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) 218 Azerbaijani young people became scholarship holders for study in the Federal Republic of Germany. In addition, the Goethe Center has been operating in Baku since 2017, which plays an important role in spreading knowledge about the German language and culture. -06C--
