Robert Cekuta Intends to Maintain Ties with Azerbaijan
Baku / 27.03.18 / Turan: "One of the most memorable events in my activity in Azerbaijan was the improvement and development of US-Azerbaijani relations." The US Ambassador Robert Cekuta, who is completing his diplomatic mission in Azerbaijan, announced this to journalists in Guba yesterday.
In diplomacy, no matter how much work is done, there are always opportunities to do even more, he believes.
"If we compare the level of relations with what it was, when I started working in Azerbaijan in February 2015, we can see how much mutual understanding between the two countries and peoples has improved," the Ambassador said.
He noted his special affection for Guba.
"We talked with local authorities about the celebration of a Jewish religious holiday, Pesach, at the end of March. Unfortunately, many Americans do not know that in Azerbaijan, most of the population of which is Shiites, there is respect for other ethnic and religious groups. I believe that this feature of Azerbaijan is of great importance for the modern world," Cekuta said.
The Ambassador completes the diplomatic mission in Azerbaijan and retires. He will leave the country at the end of March. However, Cekuta intends to visit Azerbaijan in the future.
"Each member of my family loves Azerbaijan and is tied to this country. We will definitely come to Azerbaijan in a different capacity. As a person who played a role in the development of the bilateral relations for three years, I am interested in the future of these relations," the Ambassador said. -06D--
