The State Committee and the European Union hold a conference
Baku / 25.04.19 / Turan: The ADA University organized a conference on "Inter-religious dialogue and the fight against radicalism" at the organization of the Baku office of the European Union, the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations.
Speaking at the conference, Chairman of the State Committee Mubariz Gurbanly noted that throughout the world, various radical groups continue the policy of terror, and to stop this is the task of all humankind. He noted that in a number of countries where different religions and cultures peacefully coexist, Azerbaijan takes its place, which is a multicultural country. He also touched upon the ties between Azerbaijan and the EU, noting that an agreement between them is expected soon.
The head of the EU Delegation in Azerbaijan, Kestutis Yankauskas, stressed the importance of the conference and the issue of multiculturalism and tolerance for the European Union. He also touched on the topic of negotiations between Azerbaijan and the EU, stressing that they entered the final phase, and this is the result of a lot of work. According to Jankauskas, the agreement covers, among other issues, security and education, to which the EU attaches great importance. "The foundation of a new partnership has been laid and in the future we will learn a lot from each other," the EU representative said.
Chair of the Milli Majlis Committee on Work with Public Associations and Religious Structures Siyavush Novruzov noted the great role of today's conference in solving the problems of religious radicalism. According to him, there are no inter-religious problems or discrimination in Azerbaijan and their absence is regulated by the country's legislation. He also stressed that in Nagorno-Karabakh Armenia destroyed Azerbaijani religious monuments.
Jean-Christophe Pascal, Counselor for Religious Affairs at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, spoke of the importance of dialogue between confederations, as well as the importance of the role of the state in this dialogue.
Other speakers raised issues of tolerance and multiculturalism in religious relations, stressing that there are no problems in this regard in Azerbaijan. -0-
