Travel to Azerbaijan Not Recommended States Israeli Anti-Terror Headquarters
On March 5, the Israeli headquarters to fight terror, part of the structure of the National Security Council, stated that Israelis are not recommended to visit 12 countries. Of the former Soviet republics, only Azerbaijan is on the list. The level of threat in Azerbaijan is rated as "potential"; Israeli security officials recommend against unnecessary travel. Apparently, the threats concern possible attempts of "Hezbollah" to kidnap Israelis, suggests the website İzrus.
When questioned on the information, the Israeli Embassy in Baku said that they do not possess information on the matter.
Earlier in Azerbaijan, several armed groups were cleared of charges that they were preparing terrorist attacks against the citizens of Israel and Jewish organizations. The groups were allegedly associated with the Iranian secret service.-06D-

On August 31, Azerbaijan observes a "day of silence" before the Sunday’s early parliamentary elections for the unicameral Milli Majlis. All electoral campaigning is prohibited 24 hours before the voting. The early elections were initiated by the ruling Yeni Azerbaijan Party. This decision was motivated by the overlap of the scheduled elections in November with the global UN forum - the COP20 climate conference taking place in Baku.
