Tsipras and Putin Discuss Gas Transportation via TAP
Moscow / 08.12.18 / Turan: On Friday, during a visit to Moscow, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras was received by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
One of the topics discussed was the issue of transporting Russian gas to Europe through Greece, the Kommersant newspaper reported.
At the press conference following the visit, when asked whether Greece would be a transit country for the supply of Russian gas to Europe, the Prime Minister replied that the gas pipeline from Azerbaijan to Europe through Greece was already 80% complete. "You might think how to use it for loading with Russian gas," said Tsipras.
According to Kommersant, Tsipras somewhat distorted the essence of his conversation with Putin. According to the newspaper, Putin said "the pipeline from Greece to Italy was actually built, but there is no gas there... And you might think about how to fill it ..."
According to the newspaper, Putin is lobbying his own gas pipeline, the Turkish Stream, from which gas can also get to Europe, but with the consent of Greece.
It should be noted that TAP is a part of the Southern Gas Corridor, through which gas from Azerbaijan is expected to reach Greece, Bulgaria, Italy and other European countries. -02D-
