UNESCO has adopted a resolution proposed by Azerbaijan on the impact of mines on cultural heritage
Baku/12.12.23/Turan: The resolution on the topic "The impact of mines on cultural heritage" was adopted on December 11 by UNESCO at the 15th meeting of the parties to the 1954 Hague Convention on the Protection of Cultural Property during Armed Conflict. The document was adopted unanimously on the initiative of Azerbaijan, the country's Foreign Ministry said in a statement. The resolution was supported by 135 countries.
The document "highly appreciates the efforts of member countries to preserve and protect cultural property (cultural heritage) during periods of armed conflict and post-conflict." It is noted that the use of mines and other explosive devices in violation of international humanitarian law can cause significant damage to cultural property. The resolution stresses the importance of "preventing steps that violate the 1954 Hague Convention."
It is noteworthy that the topic of the impact of mines on cultural heritage is the first resolution in the history of UNESCO that was adopted unanimously. –06B-
