U.S. Pledges To Supply Military Necessities To Both Israel And Ukraine
Washington D.C./24.10.23/Turan: The Biden Administration said on Monday that it is working "as hard as we can" to make sure that it can supply both Ukraine and Israel what they need to defend themselves against Russia and Hamas, TURAN's Washington correspondent reports.
"I can’t speak to individual weapon systems before we’ve announced what we’re providing to Israel as a result of its request, and of course with specific drawdown packages that we will make to Ukraine in the future. I will say, as a general principle, there is very little overlap between what Israel has requested and what it needs and what Ukraine has requested and what it needs," State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller told TURAN's Washington correspondent during a daily press conference when asked about speculations that Washington was sending Israel thousands of artillery rounds once intended for Ukraine.
Miller went on to add, "And to the extent there is any overlap, we are going to work as hard as we can to make sure that we can supply both countries what it needs to defend itself. But as the President made clear last week, that also means that we need Congress to act to pass the supplemental request that we have sent up."
Ukraine and Israel are fighting different kinds of wars, but some worry that U.S.-provided artillery systems could soon be in short supply if the fighting continues for months. President Joe Biden is asking Congress for tens of billions of dollars in aid for both countries.
